About BVDV-control
By Dr. Paul Steinar Valle
The bovine virus diarrhea virus (BVDV) infections cause large annual economic
losses to the European cattle industry, and BVDV also has a negative impact
on animal welfare. An increasing number of regions in Europe are planning control
programs for BVDV, and the network will :
- Gather European specialists on BVDV
- Identify vital gaps in our knowledge
- Provide guidelines for future evolvement
- Support policy makers
- Coordinate ongoing and future research

There are two main options for disease control:
- zoo-sanitary control
- control through use of vaccines
The first option has proven successful in some Scandinavian countries; the
latter need further development to be efficient.
Subjects of focus in the network are listed to the left, and more information
can be found under each of these links.
